Beyond WISSIT:
Leveraging Museum and Community Resources to Deepen Learning
A 3-Part Virtual Seminar Series (May 9, 16, and 23, 2024) brought to you by the Professional Development Collaborative at Washington International School
The PD Collaborative has established a strong reputation in the Washington, DC, area for organizing high-quality professional development workshops in museums, schools, and community spaces. Its annual summer institute, WISSIT, features a Day at the Museums–an entire day spent on or near the National Mall learning with outstanding museum educators.
Faculty from WISSIT will serve as presenters and facilitators during this virtual seminar series, which will focus on the following questions:
- How do we effectively take advantage of museum and community resources, both in your own local community and virtually?
- How do we ensure diverse representation in resources we choose to share with learners?
- How do we establish and sustain ongoing relationships with museum and community partners?
Each session in the seminar series will feature a short workshop led by a master educator spotlighting a resource and the use of a research-based pedagogical approaches from Project Zero (a Harvard University research group), followed by a breakout learning group session during which participants will brainstorm and share ideas from their own practice. An exhibition of learning in the final session will highlight what participants have gained during the series.
