DCPZ Educator Workshop: Words Matter: Making Conscious Choices When Talking about the Past (Ford’s Theatre Society/Civil War Washington Consortium)
January 18, 2022 @ 4:30 pm - 5:45 pm EST
How we tell the story matters, and we’re working on how to tell it better! Connect with the Civil War Washington Consortium (Ford’s Theatre, President Lincoln’s Cottage, Tudor Place Historic House & Garden, Frederick Douglass National Historic Site, National Mall and Memorial Parks) to learn about how we, as historic sites, approach telling the stories of the Civil War. We’ll share specific examples of language choices from our sites by way of modeling our approach to storytelling and historical practice. Bring examples from your own classrooms and textbooks (does not need to be Civil War-related) to workshop together. Learn how to make informed language choices that will help your students utilize historical thinking and unlock their empathy for the people you’re describing, whether past or present.
Registration is now open HERE! This workshop will be capped at 50 participants.
